Announcements
8/20/2009
I made a correction to the midterm dates for the fast-paced 111 & 112 below and in the syllabus. (The dates in the actual calendars linked at the bottom and in MML are correct.) The first midterm is on Tuesday, September 15 or Wednesday, September 16.
The actual exam dates are firm -- if you have a conflict, please email me ASAP. The exams on Fridays will likely only be offered in the early afternoon because the college closes early on Fridays. Check the announcments section in MML for the latest updates.
For those of you attended the orientation this afternoon and signed in for the waiting list, some of you did not include your email address. Please email me and include your name and class you wish to add.

Getting Started With MML Information and Win a Free Access Code!
All homework and quizzes will be completed in MyMathLab at http://www.coursecompass.com.
You can purchase access either in the bookstore, or if you have a credit card, you can sign up online. You will need the information on the sheets below to get signed into the appropriate course. Make sure you pick the right one!
For students with MyMathLab access to the Lehmann text from the previous semester, log into your existing account and click on "Enroll in Another Course". Enter the Course ID from the "Getting Started" sheet.
Each person must have his or her own account. In addition to enrolling in the course via WebSMART, you must also enroll in the appropriate MyMathLab course.
Once you are logged in, click the name of the course. The book and homework are available by clicking the buttons on the left hand side. You are free to get started with the homework. I will point out some important features and more at the orientation.
Start Early and Win a FREE MML Access Code!
I have two access codes to give away at the orientation. To qualify for the drawing, you must meet all three criteria below.
1. Be enrolled in Math 110, 111, or 112 Online in WebSMART.
2. Complete this survey (that is also a part of the first homework assignment) by Wednesday, August 19 at 11:00 PM
3. Attend the mandatory orientation on August 20.
If you win and already have access or wish to purchase one on your own to get started sooner, you can either save the code to use with Math 120 Online, or tell me to draw another name. Good luck and see you on Thursday!

Class Information & Supply List
Our mandatory orientation will be on Thursday, August 20 from 4:05 to 5:55 pm in Building 3, Room 142. For those of you who want to get a head start on your shopping, I've listed the required supplies below. Please purchase a MyMathLab access code by the first day of class! The first homework assignment is due Wednesday, 8/26.
- Access code for MyMathLab available from the Cañada College Bookstore or online at Course Compass. All work will be done and submitted online via MyMathLab. The entire textbook is available online within MyMathLab. For those of you who want a hard copy of the text, you may buy or rent one from the bookstore.
For those of you who wish to buy a MyMathLab access code before 8/18, please buy it from the bookstore. To buy online from Course Compass, you need a separate course ID that I have not finished setting up yet.
Check your SMCCD email accounts early next week for those course codes and additional information.
- A TI-83 or TI-84 (not TI-89) graphing calculator. These are available for rent and sale in the bookstore. You will also be using this calculator in Math 120 and 200.
- Spiral bound notebook so that you can work out examples and homework problems.

Tentative course schedules -- mark your calendars!
Fast paced Math 111 & 112 is for those students who wish to complete both Math 111 & 112 in one semester. It's basically the same as 110, but it's 6 units instead of 5. Math 110 students are encouraged to enroll in both 111 & 112 since you can earn 3 units for successfully completing the first half of the course. Fast paced Math 111 & 112 students will basically do everything as if you are a Math 110 students but you will get graded for each half of the course. If you wish to enroll in both Math 111 & 112, enroll in Math 111 now. A late-start Math 112 will be added about halfway through the course for those students who wish to continue on.
If you have questions, please contact me via email at humd at smccd dot edu.
Please check back before our orientation for updates! I look forward to meeting you soon.
