HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 4

MART 420 – 3D Animation and Modeling I

Fall 2008
Thursdays 6:30-9:20 p.m.

Instructor: Paul Naas

Homework assignment #4a:

Using the NURBS modeling techniques from the book and tonight's lecture, model a table lamp similar to one of the ones in the handout file. You don't need to reproduce all the detail of the lamp, but the overall shape should be similar - I should be able to tell which lamp you've selected to reproduce by looking at your model. Use at least three of the modeling techniques discussed (revolve, extrude, loft, boundary surface, etc). and leave your construction elements in the file. Your lamp must contain all the following parts:
Base
Shade (either serrated like the shade at the bottom or with some edge detail – no cones)
Switch
Bulb Socket
Harp (the wire part that holds up the lampshade)

Keep in mind that lamps are composed of various pieces, and so should your model. DO NOT model a single-surface lamp. If you like, you can connect the parts in a hierarchy using the Outliner window (Window>Outliner...)

Bring in your .ma file on the date listed on the main homework page to turn in.

The naming convention for your scene file is:

MART420yourlastname_proj4a.ma

Homework assignment #4b:

Finish up modeling your character. Be sure to model edge loops around the eyes and mouth to make deformations easier.

Bring in your .ma file on the date listed on the main homework page for review.
