The Tutor is the choreographer of the
tutoring session. It's the Tutor's job
to keep the session on track.

"Off-beam" is diverting the focus of the tutoring session away from the Student's work.

  • gossip about school, other students, or the instructor.
  • share their own previous experience with the subject.
  • discuss another topic within the subject.

Students go "off beam" when they...

  • talk about other topics.
  • arrive late or unprepared so the topic of tutoring is something other than the work.
  • getting the Tutor to go "off beam".
