Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a plan to add an 800 number or local numbers for areas outside of the DIstrict?

At this time (2/15/03) there are no immediate plans for adding an 800 or other local numbers.  The cost of an 800 number service could be as much as $30k - $40k per year.

It is important that all interested faculty and staff register for a Dial-in account whether they use it or not.  During the registration process, we are collecting ZIP codes.  If in the future, if additional phone numbers are added, they will be in the ZIP code areas with the highest registered users.

What will happen to my PacBell account if I do nothing?
The District will discontinue paying for your PacBell account.  Eventually PacBell will cancel your account and YOU may be held liable for the unpaid balance.
Are there plans for the District to offer high speed (DSL, Cable) access?

No

Is the District service an alternative to an ISP service like Earthlink or AOL for my family?

No, the ISP vendors like Earthlink or AOL offer may value added services for you and your family.  Some examples are multiple email accounts and content filtering. These services are not available from the District.

Do I get a special email account or multiple email accounts when I sign-up for the service?

No
