Description Caption from John Hubbard and dated March 30, 1965 reads "COLLEGE SPORTS STARS HONORED -- Four top athletes on College of San Mateo's winter sports scene meet with their coaches to display trophies awarded at annual campus recognition banquet. Holding the eridence of their excellence are, from left, Gary Shouse of East Palo Alto, chosen as most outstanding wrestler; Ted Cano, San Mateo, most improved wrestler; Dennis O'Brien, Redwood City, most valuable player on basketball team, and Breck MacLaren, South San Francisco, most improved basketball player. Coaches are Lee Allen, second from left, wrestling, and Jack Avina, right, basketball. Shous, at 115 pounds, placed fifth in state junior college mat tournament; Cano, at 140, was sixth. O'Brien set a new season scoring record for the Bulldogs and was named "player of the year" in the Golden Gate Conference, while freshman MacLaren established himself as the key to San Mateo's 1965-66 basketball hopes."
