Architect's model (?) of new Canada Campus on program for "Start of Construction Ceremony" .Description in program accompanies the photograph. FACTS ABOUT CANADA COLLEGE Planning for a campus to serve southern San Mateo County became necessary after voters approved annexation of Sequoia Union High School District in 1960 . . . . The 131-acre site was purchased in 1962 for $897,165, or $6850 per acre . . . . Canada College (the Spanish word "canada" means long valley; the name also denotes the historic bordering road) is being developed simultaneously with Skyline College in San Bruno as part of the district's master plan, designed to serve the junior college needs of the county for the rest of the 20th century . . . . Funds for first phases of both new institutions are coming from a $12.8 million bond issue passed overwhelmingly at a 1964 election and from district reserves, on a partial "pay as you go" plan . . . . Architects for the college are Chan/Rader and Associates, and Welton Becket and Associates . . . . Grading contract was awarded in June, 1966, to the firm of Bellicitti & Pellicciotti, low bidder at $1,372,523 . . . . Trustees on April 12, 1967, awarded the first-phase construction contract to Robert E. Mc Kee, Inc., low bidder at $7,856,000 . . . . First-phase buildings will include the men's gymnasium, performing arts center, campus center, academic classrooms, science laboratories and lecture facilities (buildings A, C, F-G-H, K, N, Q, R) . . . . There is still chance this work can be completed in time for opening of the college in September, 1968, 1960's
