SMCCCD COVID-19 Exposures Report

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) no longer require or recommend case investigation or contact tracing except in high-risk settings. School settings do not fall under a high-risk category.

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) continues to require that workplaces monitor, investigate, and address any site transmissions for clusters of three (3) or more for identified workgroups (i.e. student cohort, class, department, etc.)

The San Mateo County Community College District uses this website to report confirmed transmission clusters of three (3) or more within an identified workgroup and interventions identified to mitigate continued transmission.

Individual confirmed positive COVID-19 cases will no longer be posted as of September 2022.

The San Mateo County Community College District uses this website to report COVID-related cases for confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 individuals who were on SMCCCD property and there was possible exposure to others.

The District investigates ALL reports of possible COVID cases or exposures on District property. If anyone has been exposed, the District COVID-19 Health Officer (CHO) notifies them immediately of what steps they should take. See the definitions of terms used in reported cases here.

If you hear of an exposure on campus and have not heard from the District COVID-19 Health Officer, it means you were not in proximity to the person who was infected.

Definitions:

Exposure:

Having close contact within 6 feet of an individual for greater than 15 minutes with confirmed or suspected COVID-19. The timeframe for having contact with an individual includes the period of 48 hours before the individual became symptomatic or tested positive.

Exposure Risk Level to Others:

Risk levels are assigned by San Mateo County Health:
– “Low” risk means persons were in minimal contact with the individual and do not need to quarantine or isolate.
– “Moderate” means persons came into contact with the individual for a long enough duration or were at close enough proximity to require self-quarantine at home if you are unvaccinated. Vaccinated individuals are exempt from quarantine.
– “High” risk means that there is a high probability persons who came into contact with the individual were exposed to the virus. The COVID-19 Health Officer and County Health Department will instruct these persons on actions to take.

Quarantine:

Refers to the practice of separating individuals who have had close contact with someone with a contagious disease such as COVID-19 from others. This is meant to interrupt disease transmission as people can be contagious before they develop symptoms and in the case of COVID-19 can be contagious without ever developing symptoms People who are in quarantine should stay home until it is safe for them to be around others. They should stay home, separate from others, and monitor their health.

Isolation:

Used to separate people infected with a contagious disease (such as those who are sick with COVID-19 and those who have tested positive for COVID-19 but do not have any symptoms) from people who are not infected. People who are in isolation should stay home until it is safe for them to be around others. In the home, sick/infected individuals should separate themselves from others by staying in a specific “sick” room or area and using a separate bathroom if available.
