CommitteesAbout Sustainability at SMCCCD
In the 2012-13 academic year, each college within the district created a Sustainability Plan addressing campus and community involvement, curriculum, the built environment, energy efficiency, water and waste management, transportation and procurement. To develop a Sustainability Plan and manage the stakeholder engagement process, each campus established a Sustainability Committee comprised of students, faculty and staff, representing a diversity of campus stakeholder groups.
The resulting living documents outline a vision and goals for sustainability and provide a blueprint for implementation at each college. In order to achieve the goals set out in each Sustainability Plan, each Committee meets regularly to develop and implement sustainability programs and projects.
Key representatives from the campus committees unite in the SMCCCD District-wide Sustainability Committee. Comprised of faculty, staff, and facility leaders from each campus, this group is tasked with sharing best practices among the colleges, creating collective action around shared goals, and strengthening the link between facilities and their campus communities.
