Advice from Math 110 Students from Spring 2013
On the final exam, I asked my Math 110 Online students what advice they would offer to future students of the course. Here is what they had to say.

  • The advice I would give to future Math 110 online students is to make sure they prioritize their time and make sure they keep up with the due dates.
  • Some advice that I'd give to future Math 110 online students would be to never give up, use the review assignments, and practice! This class is definitely passable if you put in the time and effort. A few months ago I thought, "There's no way I'm passing this class!" Now I'm one final away from passing. Make sure that you never give up!
  • Study hard and do the homework. It's easy to fall behind and forget assignments because there is no physical instructor there to remind you. You have to depend on yourself to keep on track and keep up with homework.
  • Work ahead, take quizzes as often as possible. Do the sample problems the teacher posts before exams because they are similar to the tests. Utilize the tools when doing homework, like sample problems. Plan to take exams eary in case something comes up.
  • I would say to always try to do the quizzes all 3 times to try and get a better score. To try to work ahead, that way you can ask for help so when you take a midterm you know how to do it.
  • Give yourself time to understand the techniques and ways of solving the problems. In the homework section of MML, use the "how to solve this problem" icon. It will break it down step by step. Also, use the reviews the professor posts. And last, have patience and go step by step.
  • * Do every practice test.
    * Do all 3 chances of quizzes, even if you already got a passing grade! You can always use the practice!
  • Use all the resources available. Don't get behind. Dont' be afraid to get tutoring, make time for it! And don't do the the online version if you don't have a STRONG math background.
  • Do the homework over the week and don't procrastinate. Also use review guides for midterms and finals.
  • 1. First advice: Do your homework early, start early.
    2. Don't look at examples and homework, won't do well on tests.br> 3. Get head, so you don't fall behind.br> 4. Look at study guide teacher posts.br> 5. Email teacher with questions.br> 6. Most of all have fun. Math is fun if you understand it. I got help if needed in the Learning Center.
  • To study for the two hours a day recommended and work on your homework daily.
  • Don't take online class, unless you have a part time job or no job at all.
  • Use the Study Plan feature on MyMathLab, it's very helpful for review!! Also keep up with the homework, don't fall behind. It's okay to ask for help. GOOD LUCK!
  • I would recommend to Math 110 students to work ahead and get a tutor if possible. If you are working full-time you might want to consider taking a day class to help retain the information.
  • - Do all the homework.
    - Practice each problem more than once.
    - Do the practice quizzes.
    - PUT IN THE TIME!!!
  • To keep track of the due dates, and even though it is hard when working, to spend some time everyday studying for the class.
  • Take your time and really study. Write down everything that you don't understand and keep practicing it until you make sense of it. Eventually after trying and failing a light bulb will click on and it will make sense. Don't stress and clear your head then do it. Math is always easier with a clear mind. And don't be afraid to ask for help!
  • The advice that I would give future Math 110 online students is to study as much as you can and to take advantage of all the resources that the teachers and the school gives to them.
  • 1. Make a weekly reminder where ever you can (phone, computer, etc) to remind you about weekly homework/quizzes a few days before they are due to give you enough time to prepare.
    2. GO AHEAD in homework whenever possible to give yourself some time.
    3. Try and stick to a schedule. Treat it like a regular class and work the same days every week.
  • Do all your homework more than once.
  • Make sure that you spend extra time on the quizzes and the homework. Also try getting tutors.
  • Make sure you are top of the class. Do the homework ahead. Do the exercises over and over again. Do not be afraid to make mistakes. PRACTICE IS THE KEY.
  • Honestly, I was very intimidated because I hadn't taken a math cass in 15 years. Don't let fear influence you. Once you understand the basics, math is not hard. The best studying method I picked up was to work backwards from the solution using the "Help Me Solve This" function on MyMathLab. Once you see where you need to be, it's much easier to figure out how to get there!
  • Advice I would give to future Math 110 online math students would be DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS! You feel extremely rushed and the information doesn't stick to you. I would aso advise to look, use, and study the study guide.
