Getting Started ...Am I ready for Online Learning?

This exercise will help you determine if online learning is a good option for you. Your final score does
not determine whether or not you will be allowed to register for online courses. It does, however, help
you think about how well you might adapt to this learning environment.  Feedback will be given after
you click on the "Evaluate Answers" button
.


TECHNOLOGY

1. For distance education purposes, I have a computer with Internet access:

a. At work.

b. At home.

c. Both.


2. When I am asked to use computers, smart phones, and other technologies new to me:

a. I put it off or try to avoid it.

b. I feel apprehensive, but try anyway.

c. I look forward to learning new skills.



INDEPENDENT LEARNER

3. Being physically in a classroom is:

a. Not particularly necessary to me.

b. Somewhat important to me.

c. Very important to me.


4. I would classify myself as someone who:

a. Puts things off until the last minute.

b. Needs reminding to get things done on time.

c. Often gets things done ahead of time.


5. Face-to-face classroom discussion is:

a. Almost always helpful to me.

b. Somewhat helpful to me.

c. Seldom helpful to me.


6. When an instructor hands out directions for an assignment, I prefer:

a. Having the instructions explained to me.

b. Trying to follow the directions on my own, then asking for help as needed.

c. Figuring out the instructions myself.


7. In my opinion, the amount of time required for a distance education course, excluding travel is:

a. Less than on-campus class.

b. The same as on-campus class.

c. More than an on-campus class.



TRANSPORTATION

8. If I have to go to campus to take exams or complete work:

a. I will have difficulty getting there, even in the evenings and on weekends.

b. I might miss at times if campus labs are not open evenings and weekends.
