Argentina, a country known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and exquisite cuisine, offers a unique blend of experiences for travelers. This 11-day tour provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant Argentine culture, explore diverse geographical wonders, and indulge in the country's renowned food and wine. From the bustling streets of Buenos Aires, the birthplace of tango, to the awe-inspiring Iguazú Falls and the majestic Andes mountains, Argentina promises a memorable adventure filled with captivating sights and unforgettable moments. Accommodation

  • Accommodation for this price is based on 3 or 4 star hotels.
  • Participants in double rooms.  
  • Optional: additional charge ($750) for single room request (10 nights).

In-Country Transportation

  • All transportation in your destination stated on your itinerary is included.

Meals 

  • Daily breakfast at the hotels, a welcome dinner, two group lunches and a farewell dinner.

Guides

  • A professional, English-speaking guide is included.
  • Program leader Monica Malamud will be with you for the duration of the trip, to make sure everything runs smoothly and help with language barriers.

  • Arrive Buenos Aires: Sunday, December 8
  • Transfer to Iguazú: Thursday, December 12
  • Transfer to Bariloche: Saturday, December 14
  • Return to Buenos Aires: Tuesday, December 17
  • Depart Buenos Aires: Wednesday, December 18

Flights

  • International flights - Optional round-trip airfare (San Francisco – Buenos Aires – San Francisco) in economy/standard class, AIFS staff meet and greet at the airport to assist on arrival and accompany participants to their accommodations and round-trip transfers in Buenos Aires between the airport and hotels, at an additional cost of $1475, plus $164 (subject to change) for U.S. government and airline-imposed departure taxes, fees, and fuel surcharges.

Payment Schedule

  • To confirm your trip, we ask for an initial deposit of $450

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • If a participant's application is refused, a full refund of all payment.
  • If a participant withdraws on or before August 26, 2024, a full refund will be made less a $150 processing fee plus any non-refundable deposits paid either by the participant or by AIFS on the participant’s behalf.
  • If a participant withdraws after August 26, 2024, but on or before October 11, 2024, the $450 deposit will be forfeited, along with any other non-refundable deposits paid either by the participant or by AIFS on the participant’s behalf.
  • Participants withdrawing voluntarily for any reason after October 11, 2024, receive no refund of fees.
  • If a participant withdraws once the program has begun, there is no refund, unless The Learning Adventure suspends the program.

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Healthy to travel at moderate activity level

San Mateo County Community College District

  • A $500 contribution to the San Mateo County Community College District’s study abroad scholarship fund is included in the program fee. 

Meet Your SMCCCD Community Travel Program Leader

Chikako Walker

Professor Monica Malamud has been teaching Spanish at SMCCCD for over 20 years, where she has also held a number of faculty leadership positions.  Prior to coming to SMCCCD, she taught Spanish in colleges and universities in the Bay Area and Boston, as well as Computer Science in Kalamazoo, MI and Buenos Aires, Argentina.  She is passionate about languages; she’s fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese, she has varying levels in French, Italian, German, Hebrew and Catalan, and she took one semester of Japanese, Mandarin and Egyptian hieroglyphs.  Monica loves travelling and learning about peoples and cultures, having been to 50 countries to date.  She travels both in her free time as well as when she’s working, whether leading students in study abroad program or working remotely whenever possible.

Monica was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she obtained a Bachelor’s in Systems Analysis and a Master’s in Information Systems Engineering.  She moved to the U.S. to continue her higher education, and, after earning a Master’s in Computer Science from Western Michigan University and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Boston University, she settled in Bay Area.  She returns to her home country twice a year.
