Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Refund Policy

Financial Aid

 

You may be able to use your Financial Aid toward a Global Internship. You must complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov and speak with a financial aid advisor to see if you have any financial aid available for the summer session.

Scholarships

 

 The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (up to $5,000). Deadlines: October , 2024 and March 7, 2024 (for Summer 2024 internship programs)

This scholarship is through the U.S. Department of State. To be eligible, students must be eligible to receive the federal Pell Grant and a US Citizen.

SMCCCD Study Abroad Scholarships for Global Internships

Apply for this scholarship if you are participating in the 2024 Global Internship Programs in any of the nine countries. The SMCCCD Study Abroad Office will offer five $1,000 awards to the 2024 participants. These funds are made available by generous donations to the Study Abroad Scholarship Fund at the San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation and other resources. Priority will be given to students who demonstrate high financial need and articulate clear goals for the program.

Refund Policy

If a student withdraws prior to their GCC pre-placement meeting or less than 14 days after their GCC placement meeting:

They receive a refund of: all fees paid.

If a student withdraws: more than 14 days after their GCC pre-placement meeting:

They are responsible for a $250 USD non-refundable program deposit. 

In addition to the non-refundable program deposit, if a student withdraws: 75 days prior to program start:

They are responsible for $500 USD non-refundable program fee.

In addition to the non-refundable program deposit, if a student withdraws: 30 days prior to program start:

They are responsible for $1,000 USD non-refundable program fee.

In addition to the non-refundable program deposit, if a student withdraws: 7 days prior to program start:

They are responsible for $2,000 USD non-refundable program fee.

If a student withdraws after the program start:

No refund is available.

Withdrawals must be received by GCC in writing via email. Students must copy GCC into any notifications of withdrawal or change of status they send directly to their internship supervisor.

Exceptions to the refund policy are reviewed on a case by case basis
