The roofing process to be used on Building 16 and 18 is a cold applied process to reduce asphalt odors, but some roofing odors may still be noticed and the wind can direct them to surrounding areas. This is very unpredictable as it is dependent upon the wind.
Please pardon the inconvenience while this roofing work is completed. The asphalt roofing material smell can be a nuisance as the smell is unpleasant, but at the levels of airborne asphalt exposure that may temporarily exist around campus, it is not harmful.
It is recommended to keep surrounding office and classroom windows and doors closed during the roofing operation. As needed, Facilities will turn off air intake fans in buildings so that the smell is not drawn into buildings. The Facilities Department will respond as required, depending on weather conditions. Keep us informed about conditions in buildings, so adjustments may be made to ventilation systems. |
