Building 5/6 will be demolished to clear the site for the construction of the new Building 5N. Demolition activities will commence at the south end of the building of Bldg 5/6 and progress northward. The concrete frame of Bldg 5/6 will be recycled and stockpiled in Lot 3 in accordance with the project’s sustainable building goals for LEED certification.
A licensed industrial hygienist has confirmed that all hazardous materials have been properly removed from Bldg 5/6 prior to demolition.
The demolition of the colonnades between Bldg 5 and Bldg 1 will be deferred while the project team finalizes an approach that will minimize the operations impact to Bldg 1. A separate Construction Notice will be issued at a later date for this work. Until the colonnade demolition begins, Bldg 1 will remain fully accessible from the front (south) side. However, for safety reasons, on 7/11/08 the fence line between Bldg 5/6 and Bldg 1 will temporarily be moved closer to Bldg 1, creating a narrower passageway (varying from 6-9 feet wide). |
