Our broad menu of trainings can be taken "as-is" or can be customized to make them more suitable for your specific organization through incorporation of industry and company-specific examples, language, case studies, situations for role plays, and cultural descriptions and explanations. We also offer a full-design option, which includes building a completely new program from the first step to the end product in consultation with the client throughout the entire process.

The Emerging Leaders Institute is for high potential employees and new managers who are ready to focus on core leadership skills and are poised to move up in their organization. Seasoned managers would benefit from this training as well, as they would refresh themselves with current and proven leadership strategies. Pick and choose which workshops best meet your needs, or take all 4 and earn a Completion Award. Each training is 4 hours in length, interactive, and include hands-on experiential learning activities.

  • Employee Engagement
    (Improve Performance, Productivity, and Retention)

    This class will define what Employee Engagement is and what it looks like in the workplace. Participants will learn the difference between engaged, disengaged, and actively disengaged employees and how they impact the workplace. Participants will learn five key ways to engage employees as well as strategies to implement to help keep employees engaged. Participants will also learn how to re-engage disengaged employees.

  • Leadership Essentials
    (What Emerging Leaders Need to Know)
    This class will help prepare new and emerging leaders to succeed by defining the roles, functions and responsibilities of great leaders. Participants will also learn effective delegation procedures and elements of successful coaching. They will learn how to display professionalism. A special emphasis will be placed on change management.

  • Generational Diversity
    (Leading Cross-Generational Teams)
    This is the first time in America’s history that we have four generations working side by side in the workplace. This course is designed to equip participants with knowledge and skills to work with and lead crossgenerational teams.

  • Emotional Intelligence
    (Improve Relationships and Increase Productivity)
    This class is an introduction to the principles of Emotional Intelligence (EQ). EQ is the ability to identify and understand your emotions and those of others and use this understanding to guide your behavior and manage relationships. Topics covered include the five competencies of EQ: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and effective relationships.

The Professional Development Academy includes a Management Series and a Staff Training & Professional Development Series which includes soft skills training as well as Microsoft Office training to increase productivity. Trainings are generally three hours in length and can be shortened, lengthened, and customized as needed.

Knowing Your Leadership Style

Though there are many different leadership styles which can be used successfully, it is important to know what your own preferred leadership style is, and how you might maximize the upside and minimize the downside, while expanding your capacity to borrow as needed from other styles. In this workshop you will identify your preferred style, explore what its upsides and downsides are, and consider what you can draw on from other styles to adapt successfully to different circumstances and people.

Participatory Management

When actively involved in decision-making, employees tend to be more motivated, productive, and satisfied. Learn proven methods to involve employees in ways that will help you to make the best use of their talent.   

Leading Effective and Productive Meetings

Make the most of your meeting time by learning how to develop a clear agenda, include the right people, and manage discussion and decision making. In this hands-on course, you will practice effective time management and learn strategies for coping with challenging people and situations.

Managing Conflict on Your Team

A manager’s role in responding to the conflicts which are inevitable wherever humans interact is critical, whether it’s to prevent unnecessary conflicts from occurring, or to deal with them when they happen. In this class, learn some essentials for handling conflict productively: approaching it strategically, setting the stage to create safety and openness, and managing the dynamics to produce the best outcomes.

Strategic Planning

How can you develop the best plans and processes to support the College’s goals? Through interactive exercises and discussions with your colleagues, you will learn how to create and implement a practical strategic plan. Topics will include assessing the internal and external environment, ensuring strategic alignment, and executing your plan.

Empowering and Delegating 

How can you motivate and empower your team? By delegating effectively!  Employees thrive on chances to apply and extend their skills. Learn and practice the steps to successful delegation, including identifying the desired results, setting expectations, and preventing miscommunication. 

Intercultural Communication for Managers 

Clear and effective communication is rarely easy, and it gets still more challenging in multi-cultural settings. While many well-known communication techniques when applied with extra care can help, awareness of how cultural differences affect communication style is the frosting on the cake. In this workshop we will explore ways to employ both.

Staff Training & Professional Development Series

Building Collaborative Relationships in a Diverse Workforce 

Getting various groups to co-operate is difficult enough, but the diversity of today’s workplace makes the challenge even more daunting. Learn how to use collaborative processes to lead others and build strong working relationships. Identify barriers related to gender, ethnicity, age, and other unique characteristics and learn how to use communication strategies to build trust and gain buy-in.

Emotional Intelligence for the Workplace 

Research today shows that people with high “EQ” are far more likely to thrive at work. In this workshop we'll explore what it is, why it matters, and how we can boost our skills in tuning in to our own emotional state and acting consciously instead of reacting automatically, as well as our skills in understanding what’s going on with others’ emotional states and responding in productive ways.

Giving and Receiving Feedback 

The right kind of feedback is one of the most useful tools for personal growth, yet it’s so often given and received clumsily, that most of us cringe at the prospect of either giving it or receiving it. This workshop will focus on critical skills for managers: how to deliver feedback which brings out the best in people, and how to seek feedback from others, take it in as useful data, and respond without defensiveness.

Mastering MS Excel Series: Beginner Excel 

This hands-on Excel course delivers a thorough understanding of how to use Excel to input, calculate and present data effectively.  Attendees will learn best practices in formula creation, calculation processes, and spreadsheet & data formatting. Instruction includes important tips and tricks for greatest efficiency, critical Do’s and Don’ts to avoid errors, and how to print professional looking reports. 

Mastering MS Excel Series: Intermediate Excel 

Participants will receive hands-on Excel training including how to: create and edit charts; work simultaneously with multiple worksheets and workbooks; link data across sheets and files; protect data; outline data; use important Excel functions such as =IF and =VLOOKUP; and audit formulas. Final content to be customized based on responses to a survey to be filled in by class attendees. Prerequisites: Attendees must be comfortable with and have some experience working with data and formulas in Excel.

Mastering PowerPoint Presentations: Beginner 

This introduction to PowerPoint hands-on workshop will provide a solid foundation for using PowerPoint to create effective professional presentations. You will learn the basics of how to employ PowerPoint commands, generate slides, add text and graphics to slides, format slide content, add speaker notes, and create tables and charts.

Mastering MS Word Series: Intermediate

This Intermediate Word workshop will cover how to harness the underlying processes of using Word most efficiently. Hands-on use will include exercises covering important commands, tips and tricks shortcuts, and how to customize the Word application. Also covered will be the use of advance formatting techniques. Additional topics will include how to: use Word templates, generate automatic page numbers, create tables, and print documents or portions of documents effectively.  Prerequisites: Attendees must be comfortable with and have some experience working with documents in Word.

Mastering PowerPoint: Intermediate/Advanced 

Participants will learn to use the following PowerPoint features: adding and controlling the use of Animation for greater presentation impact, visually presenting business processes, generating Audience Handouts and Speaker Notes, adding Action buttons to link to additional content; and rehearsing the presentation. Final content to be customized based on responses to a survey to be filled in by class attendees. Prerequisites: Attendees must be comfortable with and have some experience working with generating and editing presentations in PowerPoint.

Mastering MS Excel Series: Advanced

This advanced Excel workshop will provide training on database management; data sorting and selecting; data filtering and advanced filtering; creating and editing pivot tables; data validation; and an introduction to macros. Final content to be customized based on responses to a survey to be filled in by class attendees. Prerequisites: Attendees must be comfortable with and have substantial experience working with data and formulas in Excel.

Mastering MS Word: Advanced 

This advanced Word workshop will provide training on many topics related to working with long documents including how to: create a Table of Contents, generate footnotes, produced customized mass mailings using the Mail Merge feature, work with graphics, create multiple columns for newsletters, create cross-references and links, and add watermarks. Final content to be customized based on responses to a survey to be filled in by class attendees. Prerequisites: Attendees must be comfortable with and have substantial experience working with documents in Word.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills Boot Camp
In today’s business environment, communication skills are more essential than ever. Face-to-face and digital conversations require you to establish connections with others. Learn the skills that will help you to communicate faster, better, and more powerfully. From developing your interpersonal and presentation skills to perfecting your business writing, the Communication and Interpersonal Skills for Professionals Boot Camp will give you an advantage in today’s workplace.
