COVID-19 Health Information

Updated January 2024

If you feel sick, are symptomatic, or have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 24 hours, do not come to campus.

COVID Safety Officer

Chief Facilities and Operations Officer Michele Rudovsky serves as the San Mateo County Community College District’s (SMCCCD) COVID Safety Officer.

Employee COVID Reporting

As per CalOSHA, SMCCCD continues to monitor employee COVID-positive cases. Employees will continue to report COVID-19 positives via the online Employee Positive-COVID Test Reporting Form. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 (either home antigen or PCR lab test), stay home, do not come to campus, and fill out the form.

Return to Work

Employees may return to work if 24 hours have passed with no fever (without using fever-reducing medications) and their symptoms are mild and improving.

A follow-up negative COVID test is NOT required for return to campus. As per CalOSHA, mask-wearing is required indoors through day 10 from when your symptoms began or you tested positive.

As per CalOSHA, the District shall provide face coverings and ensure they are worn by employees when required by a California Department of Public Health regulation or order.

Masks and COVID-19 antigen tests are available at campus Public Safety offices and Health Centers.  The District shall not prevent anyone from voluntarily wearing a face covering or respirator while on District property.

Recommendation for Close Contacts

The California Department of Public Health recommends the following for close contacts of COVID-19 positive cases:

  • If you have new COVID-19 symptoms, you should test and mask right away.
  • If you do not have symptoms, and are at higher risk of severe COVID-19 infection and would benefit from treatment, you should test within 5 days.
  • If you do not have symptoms and have contact with people who are at higher risk for severe infection, you should mask indoors when around such people for 10 days. Consider testing within 5 days after the last exposure date (Day 0) and before contact with higher-risk people. For further details, see CDPH COVID-19 testing guidance.

Students and Community Members

Students and other campus community members are no longer required to report positive cases and will adhere to the following guidance when on District property:

  • May return to the campus if 24 hours have passed with no fever (without using fever-reducing medications) and their symptoms are mild and improving.
  • Wear a mask indoors through day 10 from when your symptoms began or you tested positive.

Antigen Test Access

COVID-19 Antigen Tests, surgical masks, and N95 respirators are available at Public Safety Campus Headquarters and the College Health Centers. Hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes are available in community dispensers in each building.
