Common Course Numbering | CCN
California Community Colleges have made it easier for students to transfer credits between schools with the new Common Course Numbering (CCN) system.
-
- Equivalent courses at California Community Colleges will be renamed with the same course number and name.
- This change will be effective in Fall 2025.
- Courses you have already completed will not change on your transcript. Don't worry about losing any progress!
What does this mean for me in Summer 2025 and Fall 2025?
Summer 2025 course numbers will stay the same. When registering for Fall 2025 classes, students should use WebSchedule to look up the new course number, as listed in the table below.
Example:
-
- Summer 2025: If you want to take ENGL 100: Reading and Composition, look up ENGL 100 as usual.
- Fall 2025: If you want to take the same ENGL 100: Reading and Composition course, look for ENGL C1000 instead.

Why does this matter to me?
Since the course numbers and titles are changing in Fall 2025, you want to make sure you do not accidentally repeat a course you took earlier.
Will classes that I took before Fall 2025 change to the new CCN?
Don't worry, you will not lose any progress!
Courses that you took before Fall 2025 will not change in your records. The same course name, number, and title will appear with the original course information on your official transcript.
If you passed a course before Fall 2025, you should not re-take the same course with the new title and number. The two courses will be equivalent
Example: If you already passed MATH 200 in a prior semester, you will not need to take STAT C1000.
Example: If you took MATH 200 before or during Summer 2025, your transcript will still show MATH 200. The same class in Fall 2025 onward will be show the new CCN, STAT C1000.
When can we expect to see more courses with CCNs announced?
We expect to have 21 new CCNs in the Fall 2026 semester and 50 in the Fall 2027. More will be added each year until the goal of 300 is reached.
