How to access Gemini and NotebookLM
These steps assume you’re already signed into your student email (Gmail in Google Workspace) with your My.SMCCD.edu account.
Accessing Gemini

Confirm you’re using your school account

Check the profile icon in the top-right corner.

If it’s not your My.SMCCD.edu account, click it and switch to your school account.

Open Gemini
-
In your student email, select the application grid icon and scroll until you see "Gemini"

Accept any prompts

If this is your first time, you may see terms or a welcome screen.

Review and click Continue or Accept as needed.

Start chatting
-
Type your question or request into the chat box and press Enter.

You can ask for explanations, summaries, brainstorming help, and more.

Accessing NotebookLM

Stay signed into your student account

Make sure you’re still signed into Gmail or any Google service with your My.SMCCD.edu account.

Confirm your account

Check the profile avatar in the top-right corner.

Ensure it shows your My.SMCCD.edu account. Switch accounts if needed.

Open NotebookLM
-
In your student email, select the application grid icon and scroll until you see "NotebookLM"

Create a new notebook

Click “New notebook” (or similar button).

Add sources such as:

Google Docs
-
Google Slides
-
PDFs or other materials

Start using AI on your materials

Ask NotebookLM to:

Summarize your notes
-
Create study questions
-
Explain a concept in simpler terms

Generate a podcast-style audio explanation of your materials
